UID

Often times a manufacturer is required to mark a UID code on a variety of component types, comprised of numerous materials and each material of component configuration might require a different marking technology–such as labels, mechanical engraving and laser marking.

UID also requires, code readers, verifiers and validating equipment.

When it comes to UID, one of the key things to remember is that the marking of a UID is never enough, because after the code is marked, it must be verified, validates, reported to the end-user and ultimately uploaded and registered in the national registry.

Because of the different marking technologies that may be required and because of the education required to understand the whole process, often times companies that have contracts stipulating UID per Mil-Std-130, send those parts to 3rd party contract manufacturers & job-shops like ourselves.

The job-shopping of part marking allows the component manufacturer to do what they do best and to not have to get bogged down in the marking of the UID, the verification and validation, and the registering of the final code.

Job-shopping part marking eliminates the need to hire employees that understand UID, or to train employees that do not, and job-shopping does not require the part manufacturer to hire additional machine operators for the marking process either.
